Mr. Hillebrand Hoogeterp, 98, of Orange City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Pleasant Acres Home in Hull.
Hillebrand was born July 10, 1882, in Balk, the Netherlands, the son of Thea Hoogeterp and Willemke De Jong Hoogeterp. He came to the United States in 1903. He lived in Newkirk until 1939, and then moved to Orange City, where he operated a shoe repair shop, retiring in 1953. He entered the Pioneer Memorial Home of Orange City in March of 1977, and transferred to Pleasant Acres Oct. 1 of this year.
On Feb. 26, 1914, he married Jantje Schram. She passed away October 15, 1928. On October 1, 1929, he married Anna De Boer. She passed away Dec. 22, 1975. Survivors include three daughters,
Mrs. Clyde (Wilma) Weaver, of Lake Park; Mrs. Herman (Jenny) Buren, of Royal; and Mrs. Charles (the Rev. Hatty G. Duncan of Miles, Iowa; one son, Theo, of Sheldon; eight grandchildren, and
three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, those who preceeded him in death include one grandchild.
Mr. Hoogeterp was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City, where funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29. The Rev. William B. Kolenbrander and the Rev. Frank Snuttjer officiated.
Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
Special music was provided by Ronald J. De Jong, who sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus,." The congregation sang "Face to Face," with Mrs. John.
Brantsen at the organ. Casket bearers were Alvin Van Berkum, John Van Roekel, Clarence Huitink, Robert Bonnecroy, Stephen Ekdom, and Dal Droog.
