Henry R. Vande Vegte, 86, of Sioux Center, I A, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at the Sioux Center Community Heath Center.
He was born to Rich & Mary (De Roos) Vande Vegte on June 16, 1913 near Rock Valley, IA. Henry married Alyda Harskamp on October 11, 1934. They farmed near Rock Valley for several years. The family lived in Michigan & California for a few years while Henry worked as a carpenter & as a dairyman. They moved back to Iowa in 1948, farming by Hawarden & Middleburg. Henry sold dairy cattle & later mutual funds for Waddell & Reed. In retirement Henry worked with antiques for 17 years. Henry enjoyed wood working & fishing. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years; three sons: Arnold & Donna of Rock Valley, Russell & Helen of Sioux Center, & Doug & Wanda of Alton, IA; three daughters: Loretta & Marv Vermeer & Viola & Arlyn Mulder all of Sioux Center, & Sharon & Milton Swier of Rock Valley; 20 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; two sisters: Catherine Bomgaars of Rock Valley & Francis & Ed Van't Hul of Hull, IA; one sister-in-law: Florence Vande Vegte of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by one sister (Henrietta Timmermans), two brothers (Oscar & Richard), & one son-in-law (Clarence De Roon).
