Gertrude Ver Mulm, 88, of Maurice died Saturday, June 6, 1998 in the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Wayne Sneller officiated. Burial followed at Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice, under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Gertrude was born Feb. 10, 1910 in Appledoorn, Friesland, The Netherlands, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Wiersma) Hoekstra. In 1912 she came to the United States with her family.

On Feb. 22, 1934 she married Robert Ver Mulm at Maurice. The couple farmed most of their married life. In 1976 they retired into Maurice. Mr. Ver Mulm died May 28, 1987 in Maurice. In the summer of 1995, Mrs. Ver Mulm became a resident of the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. She was a member of the First Reformed Church and Reformed Church and Reformed Church Womens Ministries.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Peter and Werna Ver Mulm of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Wilma and Gerald Neis of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Ruth and Fred Siersma of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Wassenaar of Mosyrock, Wash., and Alyda Dekker of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Harry and Gertie Hoekstra of Maurice; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Mulder of Orange City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake and Ellsworth Hoekstra.

Memorials are being directed to the First Reformed Church for large print books.
