Services Held for Mrs. Peter Vis

Mrs. Peter W. Vis, 54, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, died July 27, at West Yellowstone, Mont., after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 31, at the First Christian Reformed Church at Hull, Iowa with the Rev. Martin Gritters of Inwood officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Hull, under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vis, former Esther Pals, was born Aug. 12, 1916, at Orange City. On June 23, 1939 she was united in marriage to Rev. Peter Vis. They lived in Rock Valley from 1939 to 1948; Churchill, Mont., 1948 to 1958; Oskaloosa, Iowa, 1958 to 1961; Raymond, Minn., 1961 to 1970; Randolph, Wis., 1970 to 1971.

Survivors are the widower; two sons, the Rev. Ken Vis of Hawarden; Billy, at home; seven daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Elizabeth) Beboer of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. J. (Evelyn) Koets of Grant, Mich., Mrs. John (Harriet) Geers of Grand Rapids, Mich., Miss Esther Vis of Muskegon, Mich., Mrs. Calvin (Winona) Geers of Grant, Mich., Miss Lois Vis and Miss Patty Vis, both of Randolph, Wis.; five brothers, Arie Pals of Edgerton, Minn., Cornie Pals of Orange City, Emery Pals of Grand Rapids, Mich., Gerrett Pals of Lutton, Iowa, Henry Pals of Slayton, Minn., one sister, Mrs. Oto Van Roekel of Orange City.

Esther was a daughter of the late Cornelius Pals, Sr., and Effie Van Ruelder. Preceding her in death were two brothers, William and Dock, and Mrs. Steve "Hattie" Faber.

A similar, slightly shorter obit was published in the Sioux Center News (August 5). It adds that she was married in Orange City.

An otherwise similar obit published in the Rock Valley Bee (August 5) adds these details about the funeral service:

Organist, Mrs. Ted Ribbens accompanied the Congregational singing, and the Kroese Quarter sang "The Lord is My Shepard[sic]." Rev. Sebastian Cammenga officiated at the graveside services. Pallbearers were Peter Kooima, Rock Valley, Phil Filkkema, Manhattan, Mont., John Van Weelden, Oskaloosa, Ia., Harry Hoogeveen, Raymond, Minn., Seymour Kok and Newton Elsenga of Randolph, Wisc.
