Mr.Andrew Vander Stoep, well known Sioux Center business man, passed away very unexpectedly at his home on Saturday afternoon July 22, after suffering a heart attack. He had reached the age of 83 years and had been in good health up to the time of his passing away. Funeral services were held on Wedsneday afternoon July 26, at the Vander Ploeg funeral home and at the Central Reformed Church. Rev. A. Haverkamp of Pella, a former pastor of the family, officiated at the services.

Mr. Vander Stoep was born at Pella on June 29, 1867 and came here as a child and spent all his remainder of his life in this community. He married Alyda Wesselink who preceded him in death on January 4, 1937, after 44 years of married life. Five sons and four daughter were born to them, one son of whom , Harbor, passed away in 1935.

He is now survived by the remaining eight children, namely, Dick of Lynden, Washington; Johanna (Mrs. Elmer Olsen) of Sioux City; James of Evansville, Indiana; Sadie who was home with her father; Lillian (Mrs. John Miller) of Witchita, Kansas; Claude of Sioux Center; Dr. Harry of Le Mars; and Mary (Mrs. William Kooi) of Pittman, New Jersey. He is further suvived by 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Vander Stoep was one of the early Sioux Center businessmen and was active in business until 13 years ago when he retired. He served as Mayor of Sioux Center and was also one of the early members of the Central Reformed Church where he had been a consistory member for many years and was an honorary elder until the time of his death. All the children were home for the funeral services with the exception of Richard from Lynden, Washington who was unable to attend.
