PIONEER RESIDENT HAS PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Gertrude Ver Meulen passed away at her home in Rock Valley on Monday afternoon, December 24, following a lingering illness of long duration.

Mrs. Ver Meulen was born in the Netherlands, November 9, 1846, and had attained the advanced age of 88 years, 1 month and 15 days. Her early life was spent in the Netherlands where she grew to womanhood and was married to Henry Ver Meulen, who preceded her in death fourteen years ago.

Mrs. Ver Meulen with her family came to this country forty-five years ago and located in Rock Valley where she spent the rest of her life. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and had the esteem and respect of all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, Gerrit, John and Dick and one daughter, Mrs. G. Hoevenagel, all of Rock Valley, and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Oestreicht, of Janesville, Wisconsin. Her nephew, Tom Ver Wey, of Rock Valley, also made his home with her from the time of his mother's death when he was nine years old, until he was married.

Funeral services will be held at the home this Thursday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. Colenbrander of Orange City.
