JOHN VER MEULEN

Rock Valley: Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home for John Ver Meulen, a former resident here. Mr. Ver Meulen had the misfortune to fall from a scaffold on October 10 and received many broken bones, besides a fractured skull. He was taken to a Spirit Lake hospital, where he passed away October 30 at the age of 64 years.

John Ver Meulen was born in the Netherlands April 22, 1880. At the age of 11 years he came with his parents to this country. They settled in Rock Valley, where he remained until 1905, when he left to homestead in the Dakotas. In 1924 he returned to Rock Valley where he lived with his parents. His parents passed away some years ago, and this year he and his brother Dick went to Spirit Lake to make their home.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. G. Hoevenagel and Dick Ver Meulen of Spirit Lake, and Garrett of Rock Valley, one niece Mrs. Sam Abema of Rock Valley and Henry Ver Meulen, now in service overseas.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. O. E. Schaal of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Henry Ver Meulen sang three appropriate numbers.
