Irma Jean Ver Meulen, age 86, of Rock Valley, died Monday, December 15, 1997 at the Valley Manor at Rock Valley. Burial was at Saint Mary's Catholic Church at Rock Valley. Father Dale George officiated. Visitation was Friday with a Prayer Service at the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley.

Irma was born June 6, 1911 at Rock Valley. She was the daughter of James and Emma (Scott) Walpole. She graduated high school at Rock Valley and attended college at Iowa State College at Ames, IA. Irma married Henry "Pink" Ver Meulen on April 15, 1932 at Canton, SD. Together they lived at Rock Valley. Henry died October 20, 1963. After Henry's death, Irma attended Beauty School at LeMars, IA and established a beauty shop in her home at Rock Valley. Irma moved to the Valley manor at Rock Valley on June 26, 1968.

Surviving relatives include one daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Harvey C. Rebello of Ashland, VA; one sister, Helen Farran of Rowan, IA; five grandchildren, Jane and her husband Dale Heezen, Jack and his wife Kelly Scheffer, Jilayne Scheffer, and JoEllen Landry, and Daniel Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ben Heezen.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; one son, John "Jack" Ver Meulen; one granddaughter Elizabeth Morgan; one brother; and three sisters.
