Funeral services for Ray Vander Wel, 49, were held Tuesday at the First Reformed church in Orange City with the Rev. R. Van Heukelom officiating. Mr. Vander Wel died unexpectedly of a heart attack at
his home Sunday. He was born on a farm near Maurice on November 4, 1912.
He lived in and around the Maurice and Orange City areas all of his life, attending public school and high school at Maurice. He married Selma De Vries on October 14, 1936. During World War II, he served with the Seabees. Mr. Vander Wel was a custodian at the Orange City school for three years. For about the past year, he was working for Russell Vande Brake.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, Donley Ray of Sioux City and Dennis Keith at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vander Wel of Orange City; a brother, Marvin of Orange City; two sisters, Mrs. Merle Vande Brake of Maurice and Mrs. Elmer Muilenburg of Orange City and one grandson.
Interment was in the Orange City Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.
