Andrew Wolthuizen, the son of Klaas and Irene (Dekker) Wolthuizen was born February 6, 1923 in Boyden, Iowa. He moved with his family as a child to Sheldon where he received his education in a country school. He was called into the service, serving during WWII in the Army from 1945 until his honorable discharge in April of 1946. On October 24, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joan B. Brinks in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage he farmed until 1972, when he went to work for the Farmers Coop Elevator, retiring in 1987. The couples retirement years were spent in Sheldon. His wife preceded him in death on November 18, 2010 in Sheldon. Andrew passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 88 years, 10 months and 19 days.
He was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and served his church as a Deacon, Usher and Sunday School Officer. He enjoyed listening to Christian Gospel music and working on jigsaw puzzles.
Andrew is survived by three sons and their spouses, David and Denise Wolthuizen, Kenneth and Sandra Wolthuizen and Loren "Wally" and Dianne Wolthuizen all of Sheldon; a daughter Debra Wolthuizen of Orange City, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Rachel (Eric) Iedema, Karla Bouma, Benjamin (Rachal) Wolthuizen, Matthew (Kara) Wolthuizen, Sara Wolthuizen, Joshua Wolthuizen, Leah (Joe) Van Walbeek, Adam (fiancé Amber Dillman) Wolthuizen, Melissa (Matthew) Huizenga, Justin (Chelsey) Wolthuizen; eight great-grandchildren, Collin, Dylan, Brooke, Jaden, Dallas, Elizabeth, Andrew and Anika; one brother Clarence and his wife Helen Wolthuizen of Sheldon, three sisters-in-law Berendena Scholten and Georgianna Holtrop both of Sheldon and Henrietta Brinks of Worthington, Minnesota; a brother-in-law Abraham Schiebout of Pipestone, Minnesota; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, infant son James Leon, parents, one brother John and a sister Leona Hinrichs.
