Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Etta Driesen, 71, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, due to lung cancer. Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Friday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. John Engbers will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday with the family present 6:30-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley, Iowa.Henrietta (Etta) was born September 5, 1940 at Sioux Center, Iowa, daughter of Adolph and Martha (Van Velzen) Eshuis. She attended Christian Grade School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1958. Etta married Jim Driesen on June 26, 1959 at Sioux Center. Together they lived at Rock Valley and Etta worked for Otis Radio of Hawarden. She lived in Germany for two years while Jim served in the U.S. Army. Etta was the secretary and an insurance agent at Wynia Insurance and Real Estate for many years before working at Perspective Insurance and then worked at Hayes Albion four years before retirement. During retirement, Etta would help out at Jerry's Carquest Auto Parts and then her and Jim would head south for the winter. She taught preschool and first grade Sunday School for 23 years at First Christian Reformed Church. Her Lord, family, and friends were most important, and in that order.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Jim Driesen; son, Scott (Judy) Driesen; daughter, Pam (Scott) Kooima all of Rock Valley; grandchildren, Becky Kooima, Chris Driesen, Dawn (Mark) Dorhout, Ryan Kooima; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Cornie (Gaylene) Eshuis of Orange City, IA; sister, Margene (Jim) Kooima of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Ron (Mary) Koldenhoven of Rock Valley; sister-in-law, Dorothy Eshuis of Rock Valley.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Martha Eshuis; sisters, Alice Vis, Jessie Voetburg, Frieda De Haas, Anna Mae Bruinsma, and Geraldine Koldenhoven; her brother, Adolph Eshuis.
