Kent was born on September 13, 1956 to Delmer and Zepha (Kroese) DeJongh in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He attended school at Central Lyon and graduated from Northwestern College in 1978 with a double major in Business and Vocal Music Performance.
On September 1, 1984, he married Lynne Roos in Orange City, Iowa and they made their home in Sioux Center.
Kent’s first job after college was at Toy National Bank in Sioux City. Just before getting married he took a position at Iowa State Bank in Hull. He later painted houses for several years, worked at VanBeek Law Office in Orange City and most recently worked at the Maurice Post Office.
Kent was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where he sang in the church choir and he served as both elder and deacon. He especially enjoyed singing in the mixed quartet, Generations.
Kent was known for his love of music, his beautiful baritone voice, spending time with family and friends, his quiet, gentle nature, his willingness to help others and his dry sense of humor. Many times friends would be left with tears of laughter because of Kent. And he was a wonderful husband and amazing dad.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Lynne and their son Andrew of Sioux Center; his mom, Zepha DeJongh of Rock Rapids; his brother, Dave and Karla DeJongh of Rock Valley; his mother-in-law, Lee Roos of Orange City; three brothers-in-law: Randy and Karen Roos of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Rick and Paula Roos of Orange City and Brad and Patty Roos of Marshall, Minnesota as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Delmer DeJongh and his father-in-law, Allen Roos.
