Mrs. Richard Koolbeek died Saturday [June 2] at her home in Alton after an illness of close to two weeks. On May twenty-first Mrs. Koolbeek gave birth to a little girl. Complications set in and she hovered between life and death until the grim reaper won.

Deceased was born Nellie Te Stroete and was a daughter of H. J. Te Stroete lately deceased near Newkirk. She was married to Richard Koolbeek in 1893 and of their union five children have been born. The family moved to Alton about two years ago and Richard took a position at the depot which he still holds.

The funeral was held Monday from the Dutch Reformed church. Richard has stowed his household effects over Stronks store and will board. Relatives have kindly taken the four smaller children. The case is a very sad one.

From the Alton Democrat, May 26, 1906:

There is a baby boy at the Richard Koolbeek home. The mother has suffered with pneumonia for a week and is therefore not doing as well as could be hoped.

Several members of the Koolbeek and Hilbelink families have been at Alton the past week on account of the illness of Mrs. Richard Koolbeek...
