Interment: at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa
William "Bill" Wobbema, age 65, of Storm Lake, Iowa died December 2, 2011 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
William Wobbema was born January 22, 1946 in Orange City, Iowa the son of Bernard and Irene (Tamminga) Wobbema. Growing up, Bill was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Currently, Bill was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake where he was an Elder.
Bill attended school and graduated from Hull Western Christian in 1964. Following high school graduation, Bill worked at Hatz Meat Market in Alton, Iowa, Gary’s Market in Orange City, Iowa, Smit and Son in Boyden, Iowa and then at Sioux Preme Packing in Sioux Center. While working at Sioux Preme, he began attending Briar Cliff Weekend College in Sioux City where he graduated in 1984 with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology/Sociology. He then began his career in the alcohol and drug field as a counselor and treatment director; first working in out-patient treatment in Sioux County and then moved into in-patient treatment in Sioux City at Marion Health Center. Bill was then hired to set up and supervise a new treatment center at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. After four years there, he was asked to set up and supervise the Synergy Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
On November 12, 1968, Bill was united in marriage to Judy Van De Brake at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Together, they were blessed with three children: Stephanie, Jeffrey, and Andrew.
Bill spent countless hours outside of work helping anyone who needed him. After 13 years in chemical dependency, Bill began a new career as a Human Resources Director at Faith, Hope and Charity Children’s Home in Storm Lake. He fell in love with the children and cherished the moments he could bring a smile to their faces. His job there also developed in an IT position, and he loved working on computers, both his own and for others. After 14 years with Faith Hope and Charity, Bill retired in January of 2011.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed boating. He loved and cherished his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Wobbema of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Stephanie McSparran of Alta, Iowa; Jeffrey (Natalie) Wobbema of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; Andrew (Callie) Wobbema of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Gabriel McSparran of Alta, Iowa; Zoie and Wyatt Wobbema of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; Helen Wobbema of Storm Lake, Iowa; sisters: Mary Jo (Harold) Van Otterloo of Rock Valley, Iowa; Judy (Jerald) Jongerius of Orange City, Iowa; Carolyn (Larry) Fisher of Dublin, Ohio; sister-in-law, Aleene Wobbema of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; extended family and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Irene Wobbema; infant brother, Bruce Wobbema and brother, Preston Wobbema.
