Van Voorst Rites Held Tuesday
Funeral services were held at Vander Ploeg's Funeral chapel here at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for Mrs. Jacob Van Voorst, Sr., 80, a resident of Sioux county since 1910, who died July 4. Services were conducted by the Rev. Wm. C. Lamain and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home.
Mrs. Van Voorst, nee Jeanette Vande Hoef, was born in the Netherlands, at Eda, February 23, 1884, and grew to young womanhood there. She was married in Holland in January of 1905 to Jacob Van Voorst. Five years later the couple moved with their four oldest children to Sioux county where they had continued to live except for seven years spent in Lyon county. Mr. Van Voorst preceded her in death on December 31, 1952.
Survivors include the following children: John of Inwood, Gertrude (Mrs. M. L. Hoogendorn) and Sam of Rock Valley, Marie (Mrs. Henry Vander Stouwe), William and Harry of Orange City, Maurice of Rock Valley, Henrietta (Mrs. George Vonk) and James of Ireton, Janet (Mrs. Wm. Vanden Top) of Hull.
Other survivors include 74 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Van Voorst, of Sioux Center.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were two sons and a daughter--Jacob, jr., who died on October 9, 1958, Henry, who passed away December 7, 1959, and Hendrika, who died at [the] age of 2 years. Three brothers, Rev. Jacob Vander Hoef, William Vander Hoef and Mass Vander Hoef, and one sister, Martha (Mrs. Case Vander Zandschulp), also preceded her.
