John H. Van Voorst
October 17, 1918-November 23, 1995

John H. Van Voorst, 77, of Sioux Center died Thursday, November 23, at a Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Mark De Witt and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery prior to the service.

Van Voorst was born October 17, 1918, in Sioux Center, the son of Henry and Alice (Van De Hoef) Van Voorst. He attended school near Sioux Center and served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force for three and a half years. He married Tillie Wielenga of Sioux Center on April 12, 1943. The couple lived in the Sioux Center area, where he was a dairy farmer. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Interstates Electric for the past 17 years.

He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and also an active board member of various organizations.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth of Sioux Center; three daughters and their husbands, Lois and Lloyd De Jong and Judy and Mark Vander Stouwe of Sioux Center and Linetta and Michael Pollock of Omaha, Nebraska; three brothers, Richard H. of Carmel, Jake of Inwood and Gerrit of Sioux Center; five sisters, Minnie Van Bochove of Rock Valley, Gertrude Van Beek and Priscilla Dibbet of Sioux Center, Hattie Rus of Corsica, South Dakota, and Marie Bakker of Hull; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Howard.
