Friday morning section foreman E. Van Maaneu was killed aud L. Frembgen severely injured while attempting to get tbeir handcar out of the way of
an approaching freight train. One end of the car had been taken off the track but Van Maaueu had some trouble in lifting his end,,and was struck by tbe freight and cut to pieces. Death resulted
instantly. Frembgen was on the other side of the car and was struck by the flying fragments. His injuries are painful but not iikely to lay him up for any considerable time. The train stopped and brought the remains of Van Maauen and the wounded Frembgen back to Maurice. Van Maanen was
hard working man and much respected, lie leaves a wife and nine children and carried $1,000 life insurance.
(Evert Van Maanen was born 16 Dec 1856 at Ede, Gelderland Netherlands to Hendrik Van Maanen and Gijsbertje Geurtsen, he married 14 Jan 1881 at Wangeningen, to Gerritje Haalboom born 1860 at Wangeningen to Aris Haalboom and Dirkje Pluim. They had ten children, one 7 mo old daughter died Feb 1899. The other children were Henry, Arie, Darl, Grace, Minnie, Guy, Hattie, Albert and Evert. In 1910 census his wife and family were living at Volga SD.)
