Aged Sioux Center Resident Called by Death

Mrs. R. Van Voorst Sr. passed away Sunday [June 1] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Dekker, after a short illness. At the time of her death she was eighty-one years old.

She was united in marriage to Ryk Van Voorst in 1882 and to this union were born seven children of which six survive her. They are Richard Van Voorst, Mrs. Hendrika Meyer, Gerrit J. Van Voorst, Henry Van Voorst, and Mrs. Minnie Dekker, all of Sioux Center; and Mrs. Nellie Zimmerman of Rock Valley. She is also survived by 49 grandchildren. One son, Bert, died five years ago, at the age of 38, leaving a wife and four children. Mr. Van Voorst preceded his wife in death twenty-six years ago.

Funeral services will be held [were held?] Wed. afternoon at one o'clock at the Dekker home and two o'clock at the Second Chr. Ref. Church, with Rev. Van Dyk of Ireton officiating. She had been a member of that church for forty-three years.

Mrs. R. Van Voorst Sr. died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Dekker, after a short illness, at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Van Voorst was born in the Netherlands. She was married 53 years ago to R. Van Voorst, and ten years later the family came to the United States with a group of about ten families. Settling first in Colorado, they came to Sioux Center after a few months and have since resided in this community.

Mr. Van Voorst died 26 years ago. Of the seven children, a son, Bert, died 5 years ago at the age of 38 years. The six surviving children are Richard, Mrs. Hendrika Meyer, Gerrit J., Henry, Mrs. Mina Dekker, all of Sioux Center, Mrs. Nellie Zommermaand of Rock Valley. There are 40[49?] grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Dekker home and at the 2nd Christ. Ref. church, with Rev. Van Dyk of Ireton officiating.
