Donald Anthony DeSmet,age 56, died on Wednesday night (8-8-73). Funeral Mass was held Monday (8-13-73)at the St. Mary's Church in Hawarden. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Hawarden.

DeSmet was born Jan. 25, 1917 to Dorothy and Peter DeSmet, Sr. on a farm in Sioux City, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Mary's Church at Hawarden, Iowa. His education was received in the Sioux County schools. On Feb. 16, he was united in marriage with Emma Miller at Alton, Iowa. To this union, six children were born; Betty Raymond, Leonard, Ronald,Mary and Ruth. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. DeSmet moved to a farm in Lincoln County,SD near Hudson and have resided on this farm their entire married life. He was preceded in death by his paretns, one sister and one brother.

Surviving him are his widow, Emma of Hudson, 3 sons; Raymond of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Leonard, at home, and Ronald of Canton, SD, 3 daughters, Betty (Mrs. Joseph McNamara) and Mary, both of Omaha Nebraska, and Ruth at home, 2 grandchildren, 1 brother, Pete of Hudson and 2 sisters ;Miss Dorothy DeSmet of Sheldon, Iowa and Mrs. Mabel Vande Vegte of Luverne, Minn.
