PEARL VAN DER WEIDE
Mrs. Pearl Van Der Weide, age 95, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, January 25, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 27, at 2:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Stanley Van Der Weide and the Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, at the funeral home.
Pearl was born on May 14, 1911, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Sikke and Petranella (Van Heitsma) Westra. She was raised at Sioux Center.
On November 28, 1929, she married Henry Van Der Weide at Orange City. They farmed just southeast of Orange City for much of their lives. After their children were married, they took in Jacob Van Eizenga, as a foster child. He lived with them and wintered with them in Mesa, Arizona, for more than twenty years. Henry passed away on December 21, 1995, in Mesa.
About 2001, Pearl became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In the spring of 2006, she transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
Pearl was a member of the First Reformed Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Don and Eunice Van Der Weide, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Stan and Marilyn Van Der Weide, of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Carter Hennessey, of Fremont, California; and Lee and Bob Mason, of University Park, Florida; six grandchildren, Deborah (Keith) Buss, Timothy (Ruth) Van Der Weide, Daniel Van Der Weide, Nathan (Jenny) Van Der Weide, Steven (Aly) Van Der Weide, and Roger (Rose) Hennessey; a step-grandson, Jeffrey Mason; ten great-grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Buss; and Michael, Drew, Noah, Jonah, Silke, Mae, Henry, and Jackson Van Der Weide; and a step-great-grandson, Aaron Schuiteman.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Dick Westra; and two sisters, Bertha Brandsma and Johanna Lammers.
