Born: July 19, 1897: Orange City, IA.
Died: April 12, 1997: Orange city, IA.
Age: 99 years, 8 months, 23 days
Service: April 15, 1997, First Reformed Church, Orange City, IA.
Interment: West Lawn Cemetery: Orange City, IA.
Arrangement: VanEtten-Oolman-VanGelder Funeral Home, Orange City, IA.
Artie was the daughter of Henry and Dora (Kleinhesselink) Boone. She was raised at Orange City and lived there most of her life. On January 24. 1921. She married William Arthur Van Corp at
Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where she assisted Dr. Doornink with the births of many children. In later years, Mr. and Mrs. Van Corp were caretakers of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. Mr. Van Corp passed away February 11, 1969, at Orange City.
On April 11, 1975, she married Peter VanderTuig at Orange City. In 1980, they became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home. Mr. Vander Tuig passed away December 7, 1982, at Orange City, IA.
In October of 1993, Mrs. Vander Tuig transferred to the Long Term Care Facility at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
She was a lifetime member and the oldest living member of the First Reformed Church. She belonged to the church’s Dorcas Circle, which became the Priscilla-Dorcas Circle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Orange City for over forty years.
Survivors include her four children, Dorthena and her husband, Marion "Bud" Lander Laan, of Orange City; Darwyn Van Corp and his wife, Jeannine, of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina; William Van Corp and his wife, Joyce, of Orange City; and Vera Leu of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two step-sons and their wives, Mitchel and Mathilda Vander Tuig and Richard and Ruth Vander Tuig, all of Primghar; two stepdaughters, Sadie Hilhrands of Buena Park, California, and Cladys and her husband. Don Hylarides, of Hudsonville, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren: 26 step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren: and a brother and his wife, Henry and Dena Boone, and a sister, Jennie Heemstra, all of Orange City, IA.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Leu: a step-son-in-law, Jack Hilhrands; and six brothers, Gerrit, Arie, Andrew H., John H., William H., and Doris Boone.
