Clarence Stanley was the son of Henry and Nellie (De Jager) Vander Veen. He was raised in the Orange City area, where he graduated from the Northwestern Classical Academy in 1958. He then served in the United States Navy.
On September 11, 1964, he married Karen Ann Vander Zwaag in Middleburg. They made their home in Orange City where he was employed as a truck driver for the Vogel Paint Company. In 1970, they moved to the Middleburg area where they farmed.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he was currently serving as an elder on the consistory. He enjoyed camping, boating, and working in his shop.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Carma and her husband Kevin Louwerse of Orange City; Corwyn Vander Veen and his wife Kayleen of Orange City; Craig Vander Veen and his wife Kimberly of Hull; Chris VanderVeen of Orange City and his fiancé Kristi Bonnema; and Cathy Vander Veen of Orange City; five grandchildren, Abigail and Andrew Louwerse; and Alex, Amber and Nicole Vander Veen; his father and step-mother, Henry and Grace Vander Veen of Orange City; two brothers, Marvin Vander Veen of Orange City; and Harvey Vander Veen of Spencer; a sister, Betty Kiel of Thompson; and his father-in-law, Wein Vander Zwaag of Orange City.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, April Louwerse; a stillborn brother, also named Marvin; and his mother-in-law, Alvina.
