Mrs. Johanna Vanden Burg Alton friends were very much surprised to hear of the death of Mrs. Johanna Vanden Burg who just recently visited in Alton and seemed to be feeling fine when she left her friends here the early part of last week. Mrs. Vanden Burg had been suffering with heart trouble for a good many years and for that reason made her home with her daughter and son-in-law Dr. and Mrs. B. A. Bowers in Sioux City for the past three years. (Found that Johanna was the born 1854 was the daughter of Charles Louis Vanden Eijnde born 1814 Santhoven Neth. and Abrahanna Howenga born 1820 Stedum Neth.)
Mrs. Vanden Burg was born Dec. 31, 1854 in the Netherlands. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of fourteen years. The family located in Michigan. She was married to G. Vanden Burg and lived in Chicago for several years and later moved to Alton where she lived until three years ago.
Mr. Vanden Burg preceded her in death in 1921 and their eldest son Albert Vanden Burg a student at the Iowa University at the time of his death, died in 1897 Those surviving are the daughter Mrs. B. A. Bowers of Sioux City and two sons, Rev. Louis Vanden Burg of Patterson, New Jersey and Guy Vanden Burg of Sioux City and also two grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Funeral services were held in the Reformed church at Alton Wednesday at two o'clock with Rev. Van Engelenhoven officiating.
