Obituary: Ireton Iowa- Loraine Schmidt, 90, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Ireton, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society Luther Manor in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Loraine M. Schmidt was born January 1, 1921 to August and Matilda (Winterfeld) Schlumbohm in their rural home in Eagle Township, northeast of Hawarden, Iowa.
Loraine was united in marriage to Clarence Schmidt of Craig, Iowa on August 10, 1944 at the Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center. After Clarence received his honorable discharge from the Navy, they moved onto a farm northwest of Ireton. Clarence died in September of 1974. Loraine was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton.
Survivors include her son, Lavern and his wife Louann of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 4 grandchildren, Greg (Jennifer) Schmidt of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Mike (Sharla) Schmidt, Clay (Jennifer) Schmidt and Brenna Schmidt all of Sioux Falls; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Tay, Addisyn, Audrina, and Axel.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Bernard Schlumbohm; and daughter Rhonda on July 7, 2011.
