Jake John Siemonsma
July 14, 1925 - December 3, 2011
Mr. Jake Siemonsma, age 86, of Alton, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, December 6, at 10:30am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Dr. C. Orville Kool will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday, at 9:15am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.
Jake John was born on July 14, 1925, at Rock Valley, the son of Pete John and Gertrude (Wittabrood) Siemonsma. He was raised at Newkirk and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany for two years.
On August 28, 1953, he married Joyce Marie Wichers at Maurice. They made their home at Newkirk for five years and then moved to Alton. Joyce passed away on June 9, 2005, in Sioux City.
Jake became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility on November 7 of this year.
He was a truck driver, first with his own truck and secondly for Foreman Trucking at Orange City. He then drove for Russell’s Ready-Mix in Orange City for thirty years.
Mr. Siemonsma was a member of the Alton Reformed Church and the Floyd American Legion Post in Alton.
He enjoyed woodworking and metal detecting.
Survivors include four children, Jimmy Jay Siemonsma, and his special friend, Darsie Ryon, of Matlock; Benton Odin Siemonsma, and his wife, Darla, of Sioux Center; Laura Lea, and her husband, Terry Sitzmann, of Orange City; and Perry Patrick Siemonsma, and his fiancé, Jill Koele, of Ida Grove; eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Doreen Mars; a great-grandson; and a brother, Lawrence Siemonsma.
