Bernard E. Vermeer, 73, of Sioux Center died Friday, May 15, at the Sioux Center hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark De Wit officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Vermeer was born November 2, 1918, at Sioux Center,. the son of Peter E. and Rena (Borgman)Vermeer. He attended Sioux Center area public schools. He was a World War II veteran. He married Wilmina Vander Schaaf February 24, 1944, in Sioux Center. They farmed southeast of Sioux Center. She died November 4, 1985.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he had served as an elder and deacon. He was on the board of directors for the Federal Land Bank, Farmer’s Coop Elevator and the Sioux County Cattlefeeders Association. He had served on the advisor council for former United States Representative Wiley Mayne of Sioux City..
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Darrell and Virginia of Sioux Center and Jens and Marie of Maurice; three daughters, Marlene and her husband Scott Campbell of Irvine, California, Wanda Vermeer of Tempe, Arizona, and Norma and her husband Daryl Bosma of Sibley; three 1 brothers, M. James of Radford, Virginia, and Harold E. and Elrich, both of Sioux Center; a sister, Edith Campbell of’ Sioux City; and eight grandchildren.
