Obituary: HAWARDEN, IOWA- MARGARETE VERROS, 87, of Beresford, South Dakota, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Bethesda of Beresford.
Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Pastor John Gale officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com
Margarete Verros was born October 29, 1921 in Hassenroth, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Maria (Hess) Reeg. She married Sgt. Wilbert Verros on April 3, 1952 in Hassenroth. They took a troop ship to New York City in 1952 and went to California. They moved to Hawarden, Iowa in 1953 where they made their home. Margarete was employed at Otis Radio and also at Tom’s Café in Hawarden. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, sewing, singing, baking and reading. She especially loved her family and her Lord. Margarete was always a walker and never drove a car. Her husband Wilbert died December 3, 1978.
She is survived by her six children, Marita and husband Dr. Richard Rotella of Redington Beach, Florida, Wilbert and wife Monica Verros of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, James and wife Marta Verros of Elk Point, South Dakota, Sandra and husband Michael Holubar of Marshalltown, Iowa, Karen and husband Mike Schneider of Kellogg, Iowa, and Joanne and husband Shawn Munns of Hawarden, Iowa; a family friend, John Van Olst of Sheldon, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Margarete was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbert; son, Werner in infancy; two grandchildren, Christopher and Michele Verros; son-in-law, Robert Rabusch; two brothers, Wilhelm and Heinz; and a sister, Dina.
