Josephine Verrips, 94, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center.
A funeral service will be Monday at 2pm at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with R.Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Josephine (Abma) Verrips was born April 25, 1914, to Theodore and Johanna Abma in Springfield, SD. She attended Country School until she moved to Sioux Center where she began work at the age of fifteen.
Josephine married Gradus Verrips in Sioux Center on February 23, 1939, where they made their home. Josephine cleaned homes and later worked at the De Bruin shoe store in Sioux Center and K-Products in Orange City. After her retirement, she was a volunteer and loved being a Foster Grandparent in Rock Valley.
Josephine was a member of Central Reformed Church where she was member of various womens groups.
She enjoyed working in her garden, making quilts, crossword puzzles, playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to cook and was known for her delicious food, especially her apple pies which were always a treat especially at family reunions.
Survivors include two children and their spouses: Thorval & Pat Verrips of Woodward, IA and Jan & Gary Mishler of Le Mars IA; seven grandchildren and spouses: Wendi & Mat Peterson of Woodward, IA, Evan Verrips of Woodward, IA, Becky Verrips of Woodward, IA, Kim & Kirk Holzman of Le Mars, IA, Sherry Wielenga of Remsen, IA, Amy & Rick Hicks of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Krista & Branden Gramlow of Le Mars, IA; eleven great-grandchildren: Kyle, Cory, Mikayla, Tyler, Jasmine, Haley, Josie, Jaiden, Kaylee, Dawsen and Daven; a sister and her husband, Gladys & Gary Verrips of Sioux Center, IA; a sister-in-law and her husband, Pearl and Vern Sjogren of Redlands, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband; twin daughters in infancy; parents; sister and brother-in-law Harriet and Chuck Sitter; sister-in-law, Jo Verrips; brother-in-law, Paul Verrips and sister-in-law, Nellie Verrips.
