Former S.C. Farmer Dies at R.V. Home.
Rock Valley
—Jelle De Boer passed away at his home here Wednesday morning, April 19, 1944 after a long illness of cancer.
Mr. De Boer was born in the Netherlands March 4, 1889. He married Miss Effie Kooistra December 25, 1914. For many years they lived on a farm near Lebanon until recently when they lived on a farm near Doon moved into Rock Valley this spring.
He is survived by his wife and eight children as follows: Ann (Mrs. John Hoekstra, Grand Rapids, Mich.), Eunice (Mrs. Gary Zuiderveen of Denver, Colo., George De Boer of the United States Navy, Martin, Wilma, Nellie, Louise and James at home and three grandchildren. He is also survived by six sisters and four brothers Sieboldt De Boer, Corsica, S.D.; Mrs. B. Rietsma of Sheldon, Walter of Hull, Siebren of Boyden, Henry of Hospers, and Mrs. P. Hoekstra of Hull, besides four sisters in the Netherlands. These sisters have not been heard of since the invasion.
Funeral services were held on Monday at the home at 1:00 o’clock and 1:30 o’clock at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Reinsma of Lebanon and Rev. Kekman of Doon officiating. He requested the songs "Alone" and "The Haven of Rest" be sung by the Kroese brothers of Hull who willingly complied with the favor. The congregation sang the Dutch Psalm 73 and 12. Interment was made in the Hope cemetery at Hull.
George De Boer of the Navy could not be contacted.
