Nelva Dubbe, 49, died July 24, 1998 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls with Ramona Wade, Minister of Pastoral Care, officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton, MN.

Nelva Dubbe was born to Mitchell & Irene (Obbink) Van Berkel on January 12, 1949, in Hawarden where she was raised and received her education. She attended Lebanon Christian School through the sixth grade. She then moved with her family to Hardwick, MN, and attended Edgerton Christian Elementary School and then Southwest Christian High School. After her graduation from high school in 1966, she attended nurses training at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls where she received her LPN degree in 1967.

Upon completion of her education, she was employed at Pediatrics Department. Several years later she began working at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.

On June 12, 1971 she was united in marriage to Eugene Dubbe in Edgerton. Following their marriage, they resided in Sioux Falls. She stayed at home to raise her family until 1990 when she returned to work at McKennan Hospital, working as a home health nurse. She continued in that capacity until her health prevented her in January, 1996.

Nelva was first diagnosed as having cancer in 1988. She was in remission until January 1996.

Nelva was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls where she was actively involved and enjoyed Bible studies. She had a special interest in helping with the Special Olympics. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and her two boys.

She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Tim Dubbe and Scott Dubbe, both of Sioux Falls; her parents, Mitch and Irene Van Berkel of Edgerton, three brothers, Ron Van Berkel and his wife Cheryl of Erlanger, KY, Arnie Van Berkel and his wife Candyce of Visalia, CA, and Gerry Van Berkel of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Arlene and her husband Larry Punt of Edgerton, Linda and her husband Scott Belgrave of Crestwood, IL, and Carol Van Berkel of Palos Heights, IL. She was preceded in death by her brother Harold and her grandparents.
