Sioux Center News, December 16, 1937
Word was received in Sioux county last week of the death of Peter Kraai, 71, former Sioux Center resident, and who will be remembered by many of the older residents.
Peter Kraai, 71, died at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 23, following an illness of several months. He had submitted to an operation at the Andover hospital eight weeks before and had been confined to the hospital for seven weeks. He had been brought home a few days before his sudden death and apparently was improving in health. He died while taking an afternoon nap following the dinner hour. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27 from the First Reformed Church at Andover, SD, and the remains were laid to rest in the Andover cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, the former Jane Walraven of Sioux Center. Had Mr. Kraai lived until next February the couple would have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Fourteen children were born to this union of which two preceded their father in death.
Those surviving are: Mrs. Martin De Jong and John of California; Mrs. Louis Lasser of Forest Grove, MN; Mrs. C. Johns; Mrs. Chas. Hines; Mrs. Thomas De Vries; Pearl, Minnie, Edward, Nelvina, William and Peter all living in the vicinity of Andover.
The Kraai family formerly lived in the vicinity of Sioux Center and moved to Andover 32 years ago making frequent visits to Sioux county where they have many relatives and friends, who will sympathize with the family in the death of the husband and father.
