Sioux Center News, June 22, 1993

Henrietta Duistermars, 89, of Hull, died Monday, June 14, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were at American Reformed Church in Hull on Friday, with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Duistermars was born on December 9, 1903, near Sioux Center, the daughter of John & Lubretje (Juffer) Brantsen, and was raised in Sioux Center. On December 15, 1924, she married Jake Duistermars at Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Orange City area until 1936, when they moved to California. About 1938, they returned to this area and farmed near Sioux Center. They later moved into Sioux Center, where Jake Duistermars was a city policeman. About 1965, they moved to Hull, Jake Duistermars died on February 23, 1972 in Rock Valley.

Henrietta Duistermars was a cook at Sioux Center Public School for many years and also owned and operated the Hull Drive-In. In following years, she was a cook at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull and also cooked for the Senior Citizen Dinner Date in Sioux Center beyond her 80th birthday.

She was a member of American Reformed Church and Reformed Church Women's Ministries. She also participated in Hull Senior Citizen activities.

Survivors are two daughters, Ella and her husband, John De Zeeuw, of Hull, and Jacquilyn and her husband, Dick Schultz, of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren, Larry, Jay and Steve De Zeeuw, Bob and Bill Schultz and Kim Underwood; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.
