Funeral Service: Wednesday; November 22, 2000; First Reformed Church; Orange City, Iowa
Interment: West Lawn Cemetery; Orange City, Iowa
Art was the son of Peter and Lena (De Boer) De Boer. At the age of one year, he came to the United States with his family. They settled in northwest Iowa. As a young man, he worked for his brothers on farms in Lyon County. In 1940, he moved to a farm near Ireton.
On June 6, 1945, he married Rena De Jong at Ireton. They continued to farm at Ireton until 1968, when they moved to Orange City. In retirement, Art liked to assist farmers and he also did much gardening. In 1993, they both became residents of the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Rena passed away on October 13, 1996, in Orange City.
Mr. De Boer was a member of the Fist Reformed Church and a former member of the Ireton Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon.
Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Marcia and Bert Groeneweg and Norma and Robert Lucas, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a son and his wife, Arlin and Laura De Boer of Sharon, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Rhonda and her husband, Clayton Boyum; Mark Groeneweg and his wife, Krista; Angela Lucas; Jeffrey Lucas; Jenny De Boer; and Jesse De Boer; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah and Hunter Boyum and Rylee and Trevor Groeneweg.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six older brothers and sisters, Hattie Van Ginkel, Will De Boer, Annie Van Ginkel, Joe De Boer, Ralph De Boer, and Frank De Boer.
