Sam De Jong,
Sept. 20, 1907----- Feb. 3, 1989
Sam De Jong, age 81, of Orange City passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 1989 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Sam was born Sept. 20, 1907 at Rock Rapids, the son of Sam De Jong and Rena (Haarsma) De Jong.
On March 18, 1936 he married Etta De Jager at Orange City.
He and his brother, Arnold, owned. and operated De Jong Brothers Garage in Orange City for 26
years, after which he and his wife sold advertising specialities until his retirement.
Mr. De Jong was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City.
Survivors include his wife, Etta; son, Martin and his wife Geraldine of Orange City; three daughters,
Rena and her husband Glenn Lyons of Alton, Gertrude and her husband Jay De Vries of Atlanta, Ga.,
and Sandra and her husband Bill Van Horssen of Orange City; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Arnold, of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 6 at the First Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Ralph A. Pontier officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
