Simon De Jong, 88, of Sioux Center died Thursday, August 1, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, at Carmel Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial was in the Carmel Cemetery.
De Jong was born February 4, 1908 in Maurice, the son of Peter and Fanny (Walberg) De Jong. He lived his youth in Ashton and Pease, Minnesota. He received his education at Pease. He ‘then moved to Cannel where he was employed as a farm hand.
He married Tracy Moss at Carmel on March 26, 1936. The couple farmed near Carmel before retiring and moving into Sioux Center in 1974. He was a member of Carmel Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and spouses, Allen and Eunice of Rock Valley, Odean and Phyllis of Hull, Lloyd and Lois of Sioux Center and Dallas of Sioux Center; three daughters and their husbands, Florence and Dick Dykstra of Hospers, Karen and Myron Kooima of Inwood and Bev and Larry Eckblad of Lakewood, Colorado; three sisters, Sophie Port and Wilma Andriessen, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Rose Albrecht of Hudsonville, Michigan; three brothers, Andrew and his wife Etta of Milaca, Minnesota, Charlie of Chino, California, and Ed of Traverse, City, Michigan; 19 grandchildren and19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley; and five brothers, Tony, Alfred, Jake, Clarence and Raymond.
