Hawarden - Arlene R. Dekkers, 66, Hawarden, died Thursday, Jan. 22 at her residence near Hawarden.

Services were Monday, Jan. 26, at Hawarden Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Nathan de Vries officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Arlene Dekkers, daughter of Theodore "Ted" and Geraldine (Hofmeyer) De Jong, was born May 24, 1937 in Ireton. She attended Ireton Christian School.

She married Anthony J. Dekkers on Sept. 25, 1957 in Ireton. They lived in Florida for a short time while he served in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Ireton before they began farming northeast of Hawarden.

She was an active member of Hawarden Christian Reformed Church, serving in Sunday School, as youth leader and in the Dorcas Aid. She enjoyed spending time with her family, loved her granddaughter, Edyn Rose, and enjoyed working with flowers. She also enjoyed getting together with her girlfriends, meeting and making new friends and going to rummage sales. She was an Avon representative for 24 years.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Dekkers of Hawarden; two children, Janelle Tresa Dekkers of Pleasanton, CA, and Myron Lee & Holly Dekkers of Hawarden; a granddaughter; a brother, Alfred B. and Wilma De Jong of Ireton; and two sisters, Jeanette and the Rev. Marion Groenendyk of Hudsonville, MI, and Thelma & Howard Bomgaars of Maurice.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gaylene Rose; and a son, Arnold Jay Dekkers.

Memorials may be directed to the individual's favorite charity.
