Evelyn Verduin, 92, formerly of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Canistota, SD.
Services will be held Wednesday, 5-31, at the First Christian Reformed Church of
Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Arrangements entrusted to the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Evelyn (Van Hees) Verduin was born to Richard and Nellie (Bruyn) Van Hees September 9, 1913 in Stickney, South Dakota.
She spent most of her formative years in Corsica, South Dakota where she attended school through the 9th grade. In 1928, she moved with her parents to Todd County, South Dakota. Her family attended the Purewater Christian Reformed Church. It was at this church that she made profession of her faith.
On the night of April 21, 1937 Evelyn married Cornelius Verduin at her parent’s home in Todd County. Cornie preceded her in death on June 1, 1990. Evelyn and Cornie lived there until 1964, at which time they moved to Sioux Center, Iowa. Evelyn then worked at Dordt College in the Commons and Snack Bar for 21 years.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center and enjoyed listening to Christian Radio, especially the old time hymns. She spent many hours listening to radio ministers that would preach the way of Salvation.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Neil and Phyllis Verduin of Spokane, WA and Dale and Sharon Verduin of Hawarden; a daughter-in-law, Sue Verduin of Corsica, SD along with 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy Van Hees of Delavan, WI; two sisters-in-law: Florence, Mrs. Harlan Van Hees of Boise, ID and Dorothy, Mrs. Roy Van Hees of Ft. Collins,CO and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, of 53 years, Cornelius Verduin; her parents; son, James Verduin; brothers, Harlan, Ira and Roy Van Hees and two infant grandsons.
