Hulda Rosella De Jong
Sept. 7, 1894----March 22, 1983
Mrs. Julius E. De Jong, 88, of Orange City, passed away Tuesday, March 22, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital after a short illness.
Hulda Rosella was born Sept. 7, 1894, near Maurice, the daughter of Sanmel Muilenburg and Adriana Markus Muilenburg. Her family moved to a farm near Orange City and she graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy in 1912. On Dec. 28, 1923, she married Julius Evan De Jong at Orange City. They farmed southwest of Orange City until retiring to town in the fall of 1962.
Mrs. De Jong was a charter member of the Trinity Reformed Church where she served as their
first accompanist and organized the junior choir. She was active in Reformed Church women’s organizations, especially music activities.
Survivors include her husband; son, Koenraad M. De. Jong, of Orange City; and two grandsons, Kevin M. and Daniel K.
Mrs. De Jong was preceded in death by a daughter, Ada Miriam in September of 1925 and five brothers and sisters, the Rev. Hubert S. Muilenburg, Mrs. John (Ada) Vander Schaaf, Mrs. Henry (Cyn thia) Noordhoff, Mrs. Ben (Henrietta) Bonnema and Markus C. Muilenburg.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Donald R. Lenderink and the Rev. Henry Elgèrsma officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City. IA.
