MRS. JOHN G. DE JONG (Hattie Van Rooyen)
February 15, 1884---- Jan. 14, 1963
Funeral services for Mrs. John G. De Jong, 78, who died Jan. 14 at the Orange City hospital, were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Reformed church, Orange City. Rev. Donald Lendrink officiated and burial was in the Orange City cemetery.
Mrs. De Jong (Hattie Van Rooyen ) was born February 15, 1884, near Newkirk, Ia. She was married to John G. De Jong February 23, 1907. The couple farmed 35 years in this area before moving to Orange City. Mr. De Jong died in 1956.
Mrs. De Jong, graduated from Northwestern academy, was a school teacher five years. She was active in church and community affairs and was a charter member of her church.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. C. V. R. De Jong of Aurora, Colo., and Rev. Lloyd De Jong of Portage, Wis,; and three daughters, Mrs. D. G. Vanderberg of Dubuque, Ia., Mrs. Marvin Vanderwel of Orange City and Mrs. Orville Kuiken of Hutchinson, Minn. There are 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
