Julius De Jong, 54, of Rock Valley died Friday, May 26, 1989 at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley following a long illness.
Services were at 10:30 am. Tuesday, May 30, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Jerry Van Gronigen officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.
De Jong was born May 31, 1934, at Orange City. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1951. He married Priscilla Statema June 6, 1956, at Ireton. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1956 to 1958. He was in the livestock trucking business from 1958 to 1966 at Orange City. In 1966 the family moved to Rock Valley where he worked at Kooima Machine. In 1968 he became director of production at Hope Haven. He built the Towne House Restaurant in 1977 and operated it until 1983 when he began working for the Interstate Assurance Co.
He was a past elder and deacon of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Since 1978 he was a member of the Rock Valley City Council.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tim of Sioux Falls and Michael of Rock Valley; three daughters, Barbara Bom of Rock Valley, Pamela De Jong of Sheldon and Nancy Gradert of Hawarden; six brothers, Sam, Ray, Marvin and Wilbur, all of Orange City, Peter of Maurice and Marion of Baldwin, Wisconsin; three sisters, Rena Kloosterman of Caledonia, Michigan, Arlene Menninga of Redlands, California, and Rosemary Te Grotenhuis of Orange City; and three grandchildren.
