John G. De Jong,

ORANGE~ CITY — Death by coronary occlusion claimed the life of John G. De Jong in his sleep, Tuesday morning at 3:30 o‘clock. Mr. De Jong was born at the Gt. De Jong homestead southwest of Orange City, on March 10, 1885. His mother was formerly Jannetje Van Peursem. Mr. De Jong’s marriage to Hattie Van Rooyen daughter of C. Van Rooyen, occurred on Feb. 23, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. De Jong retired from the farm in the spring of 1939. Mr. De Jong and family were charter members of the Trinity Reformed church where he served as deacon and later as e1der for many years.
Surviving are the widow, five children and 13 grandchildren. The children are: Rev. C. V. R. De Jong of Aurora, Colo.; Jean, Mrs. B. G. Vander Berg, of Dubuque, Ia.; Margaret, Mrs. Marvin Vander Wel of Orange City; Rev. Lloyd De Jong of Portage, Wisc.; Harriet, Mrs. Orville Kuiken of Sioux Center. The brothers and sisters surviving are: P. G. De Jong, Mrs. Jno. Aalberts of Orange City, Mrs. Geo. Douwstra of Holland, Mich., Mrs. L. L. Jones of Woodlands, Calif., Mrs. Herman Luymes, and George of Orange City.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the De Jong home with the Rev. Jno. C. Van Wyk of Oskaboosa officiating. The Rev. Chas. Boonstra, pastor, officiated at the services in the church and the two sons, Rev. C. V. H. De Jong and Rev. Lloyd De Jong had charge of the committal service at the local cemetery. The pall bearers were: the grandson, Jno. C. De Jong of Aurora, Cob., the sons-in-law and the sons of the deseased. The Van Etten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. -
