Harold Van't Hul, 25, Suffered Fatal Injuries in Truck Collision Wednesday Feb. 12th

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Hull Saturday afternoon for Mr. Harold Van't Hul, age 25, who died Wednesday afternoon from injuries received in a head-on highway collision between two trucks near Canton, South Dakota early that morning.

Mr. Van't Hul, who resided in Perkins, was an employee of the Rock Rapids Creamery. He was accompanied by Mr. Gerald Bonestroo, also of Perkins, and was on his way to begin his daily milk route in South Dakota when the accident occurred. He suffered his fatal injuries when his truck collided head-on with another truck. Mr. Bonestroo also received severe injuries, but was able to return to his home in the afternoon.

Obituary

Mr. Harold Van't Hul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van't Hul of near Sheldon, Iowa, was born at Colton, South Dakota, July 12, 1921 and passed away in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospital on Wednesday, February 12th, having reached the age of 25 years.

Mr. Harold Van't Hull made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 17 years.

On October 26, 1942, Harold enlisted in the Navy and on August 27, 1944 he was united in marriage to Miss Irma Bolks of Hull, in a ceremony performed at Norfolk, Virginia. He was discharged from Service on October 2, 1945.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his wife, Irma; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van't Hul; four brothers and two sisters, Donald of Doon, Elmer of Sioux Center, Lloyd of Hull and Jenelda, Milton and Dianne at home with their parents. Also his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Vos of Hull.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 15, 1947, from the First Reformed Church in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. Bovenkerk, assisted by Rev. John Vos of Maple Lake, Minnesota, an uncle [of the deceased], and Rev. H. Vant Kerkhoff

At the service a male quartet of the First Reformed Church sang "Precious Memories," and a mixed quartet of the American Reformed Church sang "Some Day, Some Time We'll Understand." The American Legion also took part and presented the flag to Mrs. Irma Van't Hul. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Pall bearers were brothers of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van't Hul, Donald, Elmer and Lloyd Van't Hul and Harold, Lloyd and Alfred Bolks. Interment was in Hope cemetery, with arrangements in charge of Claerbert and Van Etten.

(A shorter obituary was published in the Sioux Center News, Feb. 20, 1947. It adds the information that both men were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital, where Van't Hul died. Bonestroo was able to go home with his parents later in the day.)
