Feb. 10, 1913---- August 24, 2002
GEORGE—Henry DeJong, 89, George, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at George Good Samaritan Center. Services were Monday, Aug. 12, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, with Pastor Dale Lint officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, under the direction of Bolin Funeral Service in George. Henry DeJong, son of John and Tryntje (Benkens) DeJong, was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Boyden. He attended Boyden Christian School and Boyden Public School. He graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a doctor of dental surgery degree. He served 1940-42 in the U.S. Cavalry during World War II, one of the last cavalryman in the U.S. Army.
He married Lorraine Schol on Sept. 10, 1952, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They came to George to practice dentistry. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. He served on the George City Council. He liked to read, garden, walk and bike.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine DeJong of George; a brother, Bernard DeJong of Lubbock, TX; and three sisters, Jeanette DeJong of Boyden, Eunice DeJong of Boyden, and Joanne and Tenas DeJong of Tustin, CA.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick DeJong.
