January 4, 1906--September 14, 1991
Henry De Jong, 85, of Rock Valley died Saturday, September 14, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley following a long illness.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Roger Sparks officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
De Jong was born January 4, 1906, near Sioux Center. He married Anna Van Den Bosch February 12, 1930, in Rock Valley. The couple farmed for 13 years southeast of Rock Valley and then were in the house-moving business for 12 years. They returned to farming, which they continued until 1966. He was the owner-manager of the Rock Valley Motel for eight years and then was a truck driver for various businesses and companies the last 17 years.
He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. where he was a past elder and deacon. He was a past board member of Rock Valley Christian School and Western Christian High School and had served on the Rock Township Cemetery Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Lester of Comstock Park, Michigan, Norman of Palos Heights. Illinois, Nelson of Rock Valley and Russell of Tempe, Arizona; two daughters, Dorothy Breens of Prinsburg, Minnesota, and Lorraine Baartman of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Alice Swier of Rock Valley, Hattie De Jong of Orange City and Margaret Kooiker of Madison, South Dakota; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in his name with Rock Valley Christian School.
