Garrett De Jong
May 6, 1900 ---Jan. 31, 1986
Rev. Garrett De Jong, 85 died Jan. 31, 1986 at Flower Square Nursing Home in Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services were held in the Tucson Reformed Church on Feb. 4, 1986 with Dr George Gosselich and Rev C.V.R. De Jong officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Rev. De Jong was born May 6, 1900 near Orange City. He graduated from Hope College, Holland, Mich. in 1922 and from Western Theological Seminary in 1925. He married Everdene Kuyper on July 1, 1925.
In 1926 Garrett and Everdene were commissioned as missionaries of the Reformed Church and sent to
Arabia. They served mainly in Kuwait with shorter terms in Bahrain and Muscat.
After serving nearly 40 years, they retired in 1965 and moved to Tucson Ariz
He is preceded in death by two children, John and Marjorie, who died in Arabia, his sister Jennie Kiel and his wife Everdene who died in 1980.
Survivors include three sons, Keith of Kodaikanal, India, David of,Wichita, Kan., and Edward of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Anna Muilenburg of Sioux Center.
