STEEN, Minn. -- Jasper Van Veldhuizen, 82, of Steen, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, with the Rev. John den Hoed officiating. Visitation will be today at the funeral home.

Mr. Van Veldhuizen was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Inwood, Iowa, the son of Art and Cornelia (Brouwer) Van Veldhuizen. He moved with his family to California, where they lived for 10 years. They returned to the Rock Valley area. He later moved to California, where he worked milking cows.

He married Jennie Kleyn on Feb. 14, 1940, near Rock Valley. The couple moved to California, where they lived for two years. They returned to the Rock Valley area, where they lived for 17 years. They then moved to the Rock Rapids area, where they farmed.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Arthur A. and Nellie of Rock Rapids, John C. and Janice of Steen and Marlan W. and Kathi of San Antonio, Texas; four brothers and their wives, Pete and Grace of Sioux Falls, S.D., Joe and Ida of Burlington, Iowa, Arie and Hermina of Rock Valley and Cornie and Bernice of Inwood; two sisters, Dora Koops of Artesia, Calif., and Jennie and her husband, George Rus of Rock Valley; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Art.
