Jennie Van Veldhuizen, 84, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Rock Rapids Health Center. Funeral services were held Saturday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. G. M. de Leeuw presided.

Jennie was born May 6, 1919 in Sioux County, Iowa, daughter of John and Aaltje (Kastein) Kleyn. She married Jasper Van Veldhuizen on February 14, 1940 at Rock Valley. Together they lived in California for two years. For the next 17 years they lived in the Rock Valley area, and then farming near Rock Rapids, Iowa. Jasper died on January 16, 2001. Jennie moved to the Four Seasons Assisted Living at Rock Rapids in February of 2001 and to the Rock Rapids Health Centre on April 18, 2003.

Surviving relatives include three sons and their wives: Arthur A. and Nellie Van Veldhuizen, John C. and Janice Van Veldhuizen, all of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Marlan W. and Kathi Van Veldhuizen of San Antonio, TX; sister Dena Wiekamp of Rock Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper; 3 brothers, Dick, Ben and Neil Kleyn; 6 sisters, Cornelia Hofland, Elizabeth Fluit, Fredreaka Gerritsen, Lena Kruid, Grace and Marie Kleyn.
