GENE VAN VELDHUIZEN

Henry Gene Van Veldhuizen, 61, of Sanborn, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at his home in Sanborn.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12 at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. The Rev. Tom Hoogendoorn officiated. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Gene was born Nov. 6, 1933 in Sanborn, the son of Henry and Nellie (Kroese) Van Veldhuizen. He lived his youth in Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School. He married Jean Aberson June 25, 1957 in Orange City. The couple made their home in Sanborn where he was first employed by the Sanborn Creamery (AMPI), and for most of his life was a self-employed carpenter with his son, Dan. He had also assisted throughout the years at the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Mr. Van Veldhuizen was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn where he sang in the choir. He had served as an EMT in Sanborn for many years and was a former board member of the Sanborn Funeral Home. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Dan and Laurie of Primghar; a daughter and her husband, Hope and Luke Corso of Silvis, Ill.; three grandchildren, Kurt, Kayla and Leigha Van Velshuizen; his stepmother, Josina Van Veldhuizen of Sheldon; a brother, Ivan of Sanborn; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Esther) Zonnefeld and Mrs. Dale (Marilyn) DeBoer), both of Sibley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild.
