Mrs. Wm. Van Vliet Laid to Rest Tuesday

Funeral services were held at the Kraai Funeral Chapel and at the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull Tuesday afternoon, May 28, for Mrs. Wm. Van Vliet, 72, of Sheldon, Iowa, who passed away Saturday, May 25th. Interment was in Hope Cemetery at Hull. The Rev. Gysbert J. Rozenboom officiated and arrangements were by Kraai funeral service. Pall bearers were Lambert Scholten, Edward Scholten, George Pals, Lawrence Vander Haak and Norman Vander Ark, all of Hull and Henry Buteyn of Sanborn.

Mrs. Wm. Van Vliet, nee Sue Van Zwol, and born May 9, 1891, at Leeuwarden, Netherlands, to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Zwol. As a small child she came, with her parents, to the United States and grew to womanhood at Le Mars, Iowa. She worked for many years at the De Bey hospital in Orange City, and also at Sheldon, Iowa.

She was married to Mr. William Van Vliet on August 8, 1936 at Prinsburg, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Van Vliet made their home at Hull, Sanborn, Pella and Sheldon, Iowa, and Manhattan, Montana and Pease, Minnesota following their marriage. Mr. Van Vliet preceded her in death on March 22nd of this year.

Mrs. Van Vliet is survived by a atep-son, Stanley Van Vliet of Sheldon, Iowa, and four grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters also survive. They are: Dr. Ralph Van Zwol of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Henry Van Zwol of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. W. W. Hyne of Des Moines; and Mrs. Margaret Dykstra and Ann Van Zwol of Orange City.

Mrs. Van Vliet was a faithful member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull.

Among relatives attending the services Tuesday were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Zwol, Minneapolis, Minn.; Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Van Zwol, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Melvin Dykstra, Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. J. Van Zwol, Paullina; Mrs. C. Van Zwol, Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. Margaret Dykstra, Orange City, Iowa; Charles C. Myers, Chicago, Illinois.

A briefer obit was published in the Sioux Center News, June 6, 1963. Its opening paragraph, however, provides some additional information:

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 28, at the First Christian Reformed church of Hull for Mrs. Wm. Van Vliet (nee Sue Van Zwol) of Sheldon, who passed away May 25 in the Nursing Wing of the Sheldon hospital where she spent the past year for a heart ailment. Prior to her stay in the hospital she was at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mike Dykstra of Orange City for three years.
