William Van Vliet Laid To Rest at Hull Monday

Mr. William Van Vliet, a former resident of Hull and who at the time of his death was making his home in the Holland Home for the Aged in Sheldon, died in his sleep following a heart attack last Friday morning, March 22, 1963. He seemed to be feelilng well prior to his death, although he had a heart condition since 1958.

Mr. Van Vliet had reached the age of 71 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was born January 1, 1892, at Lucas, Michigan, a son of Rev. and Mrs. Peter Van Vliet. During his early years he lived with his parents in many localities: Lucas, Michigan, 1892; Munster, Indiana, 1892-1906; Bemis, South Dakota, 1906-1914; and Inwood, Iowa, 1914-1917. He attended and graduated from the North Township Schools, Highland, Indiana, in 1905; from the Doon High School, Doon, Iowa, 1908; Northwestern Academy, Orange City, Iowa, 1909; University of Chicago, 1917; Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Kalamazoo Normal School, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He had spent forty years as a Christian School teacher and principal. He was an instructor at Baxter St. Christian School, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Principal, Christian School, Sioux Center, Iowa; Principal, Christian School, Rock Valley, Iowa; Instructor of English, Western Academy, Hull, Iowa; Principal, Christian School, Sanborn, Iowa; Pella Christian High School, Pella, Iowa; Manhattan Christian School, Manhattan, Montana; Christian School, Pease, Minnesota; and Instructor, Western Christian High School, Hull, Iowa, where he retired.

In 1918 he was married to Hendrika Campagne, who preceded him in death in 1933. In 1936 he was married to Sue Van Zwol at Prinsburg, Minnesota. She is presently residing in the Community Nursing Home, Sheldon, Iowa. Mr. Van Vliet was a member of the Christian Reformed Church.

He is survived by one son, Stanley Van Vliet, Sheldon, Iowa, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, at the Kraai Funeral Chapel in Hull and from the First Christian Reformed Church, Hull, with the Rev. G. J. Rozenboom officiating. The Kroese quartette sang "In Sweet Communion" at the service. Interment was in Hope cemetery at Hull. Pallbearers were: George Pals, Edward Scholten, Lambert Scholten, Gerrit H. Roelofs, Norman Vander Ark and Lawrence Vander Haak.

Coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin De Vries of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Haan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
